China’s President Xi Jinping met with Vietnam’s new leader, To Lam, Monday in Beijing, marking a significant moment in the relationship between the two countries.

This state visit, which is Lam’s first official trip abroad since taking office, highlights the deepening ties between China and Vietnam amidst their shared history and evolving strategic partnership.

Here are five key points to understand about this important diplomatic engagement:

1. Vietnam’s new leader, To Lam’s first state visit to China began with meeting President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

2. China expressed enthusiasm about Lam choosing China for his inaugural visit. This decision underscores the strong bond between China and Vietnam, reflecting the high value both countries place on their relationship.
