The Border Security Force issued a high alert to over 4,000 units at the India-Bangladesh border as the crisis spiraled in Dhaka. The development comes soon after PM Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday, ending 15 years in power as thousands of protesters defied a military curfew and stormed her official residence.

The Indian security agencies are monitoring the C-130J military aircraft. Latest reports say that the plane will land at Delhi’s Palam airport at around 5:00 pm. As per the latest data by flightradar24.com, the aircraft had left Agartala and was on its way to Delhi.

The protests in Bangladesh began peacefully as frustrated students demanded an end to a quota system for government jobs, but the demonstrations have since morphed into an unprecedented challenge and uprising against Hasina and her ruling Awami League party.

The Tripura Police confirmed that Hasina’s military chopper has landed in Agartala. The embattled leader is en route to Delhi after fleeing from Dhaka along with her sister Sheikh Rehana, according to the report of News18.

Bangladesh Army takes over

Meanwhile, shortly after Hasina’s departure, Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman addressed the nation. He said that an interim government was in place after consultation with all political parties.
