The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas has claimed responsibility for a blast in Israel’s Jerusalem.

Earlier on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, Tel Aviv was rocked by explosions that killed one man and injured another. The police and the domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet had said it was an intended terrorist attack. They said the man who died in the explosions was carrying the explosives.

Now, Hamas has claimed responsibility for the attempted suicide bombing, according to The Times of Israel.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) said it was also part of the suicide bombing plot along with Hamas, as per the newspaper.

The explosion took place near a synagogue in Tel Aviv. It occurred at a time when the United States is leading last-ditch efforts for a deal for a ceasefire int he Gaz Stirp and the release of all hostages. While the mediators had said last week that the talks in Doha were very missing, Hamas now rejected the US proposal to bridge the gap between its position and that of Israel. This had put the future of a deal uncertain.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Israel to press for the finalisation of the deal. He has said that there was now a last chance for making a deal.

“This is a decisive moment. Probably the best, maybe the last, opportunity to get the hostages home, to get a cease-fire, and to put everyone on a better path to enduring peace and security,” said Blinken during his meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

As a slew of new demands of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has compromised the peace talks, Blinken said that no one should escalate the crisis and everyone should now say yes to the deal.
