Melania Trump, the elusive wife of Donald Trump, made a rare appearance at the Republican National Convention to support her husband in his third bid for the White House, but unlike in 2016 and 2020, this time she was not scheduled to deliver a speech.
It is tradition at party conventions for the candidates’ spouses to give a speech and tell heavily-scripted anecdotes about family life. Trump’s running mate and Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance’s wife Usha Chilukuri Vance also gave a speech on Wednesday.
Soon after Trump’s lengthy acceptance speech on the last day of RNC in Milwaukee ended, Melania, 54, walked to the podium alone as classical music played in the background. She was seen sporting a Republican red dress, appearing glamorous.
Once on stage, Melania was greeted with applause and balloons rained down on the crowd gathered to attend the RNC.
A hug & kiss
Trump greeted Melania with a hug and the couple shared a kiss on the cheek.
He then grabbed Melania’s hand and walked across the stage with other members of his family including Ivanka Trump (Donald Trump’s daughter), her husband Jared Kushner, joining them.

Melania has been keeping a low profile since her husband’s 2024 White House bid. She had not been spotted in Milwaukee since the convention kicked off on Monday.
In his speech on the final day of RNC 2024, Trump took a moment to express his appreciation for Melania, saying: “I am deeply honoured to be joined by my amazing wife Melania."
Trump said: “Melania, thank you very much you also did something really beautiful, a letter to America for national Unity and it really took the Republican party by surprise, it was beautiful."
Last week, after an assassination attempt on Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, Melania had issued a statement calling for unity.
“This morning, ascend above the hate, the vitriol, and the simple-minded ideas that ignite violence. We all want a world where respect is paramount, family is first, and love transcends. We can realise this world again. Each of us must demand to get it back. We must insist that respect fills the cornerstone of our relationships again,” she said in a statement.
Donald Trump said that Meliana’s letter “captivated so many”.
Ever since Donald Trump was first elected in 2016, Melania has broken all the rules of normal American presidential politics.
In the White House during Trump’s first term, she was a reclusive figure compared to other first ladies, focusing on a narrow set of interests. However, since her husband left office, she has not been seen by her husband’s side on many occasions.
Melania wasn’t there when he had his mugshot taken in Atlanta. She wasn’t there in New York when he became the first former president to be convicted of a crime. And she wasn’t there when he officially won his party’s presidential nomination, for the third time, on Monday.
