In a defiant speech, US President Joe Biden made it clear that he won’t quit the presidential race, dismissing the doubt swirling around his survivability as a Democratic presidential nominee. The  American commander-in-chief made the proclamation while he was addressing a charged-up rally in the battleground state of Michigan.

Biden held a rally at a high school gymnasium in Detroit as a part of his visit to the critical swing state. What makes Michigan important is the fact that the state chose Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020.

As he walked onto the stage to address the audience, “Don’t you quit” chants echoed throughout the gymnasium. “I am running, and we’re gonna win,” he said. “I’m not going anywhere.” The president laid out his plans for a second term which included codifying abortion rights, signing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, ending medical debt, raising the minimum wage and banning assault weapons.

Biden calls Trump “a loser”

In his address, Biden also took time to take jabs at former US President Donald Trump calling him “a loser”. In a scathing attack against the Republican presidential hopeful, Biden challenged Trump’s record in terms of employment and economy.

“Donald Trump is the only president in American history, other than Herbert Hoover, who lost more jobs than he had when he came in,” said the POTUS. “That’s why I call him Donald ‘Herbert Hoover’ Trump," he added.

Biden also mentioned the controversial Project 2025, a policy plan led by the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank. In the past, Trump has attempted to distance himself from the project, which Democrats stated that it shows his extremist agenda.

“Project 2025 is the biggest attack on our system of government and our personal freedom that has ever been proposed to this country,” the president averred. He went on to outline the project’s aim to criminalize the shipment of abortion medication, deny contraceptive coverage and eliminate the Department of Education.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” he said. “It’s not a joke. It’s time for us to stop treating politics like entertainment and reality TV. Another four years of Donald Trump is deadly serious. Deadly serious.”

“I know how to tell the truth, I know right from wrong, and I know I have demonstrated how to do this job. We’re going to stop Donald Trump. Let’s get this done," he concluded.
