In early January, Sheikh Hasina was experiencing a political high; she was elected for a record fourth consecutive term and fifth overall term as prime minister of Bangladesh.

However, her rule, 15 years in total, came to a dramatic end as protesters stormed her official residence, forcing her to resign and flee the country. Reports say that she will seek asylum in the UK and will head to London soon.

From being admired by supporters as an “ Iron Lady”, providing stability to the once military-ruled Bangladesh, to being criticised as an “autocratic” leader, the 76-year-old Hasina has seen it all.

Hasina, the daughter of Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had been ruling the strategically located South Asian nation since 2009, making her not only longest-serving prime minister in Bangladesh’s history but also the world’s longest-serving female head of government.

Here’s a look at her life in graphics.
