Amid the raging Israel-Hamas war, reports are emerging that an Israeli airstrike in Gaza killed at least 18 people from the same family. Meanwhile, things did not look good in West Bank as well after Hamas confirmed that two of its senior operatives were killed in a drone strike in Jenin.

The airstrike in Gaza hit a house and adjacent warehouse sheltering displaced people at the entrance to the town of Zawaida. According to The Associated Press, the victims of the strike were taken to the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah where the death toll was confirmed.

Among those who were killed included a man named Sami Jawad al-Ejlah, a wholesaler who coordinated with the Israeli military to bring meat and fish to Gaza. The Israeli airstrike also killed his two wives, 11 of their children aged two to 22, the children’s grandmother and three other relatives.

Relatives of the family share the plight

Omar al-Dreemli one of the relatives of the family recalled the horrific scenes he witnessed at the hospital. “We are in the morgue seeing indescribable scenes of limbs and severed heads and children who are dismembered," Dreemli told The Associated Press. “He was a peaceful man,” said Abu Ahmed, a neighbour.

The locals also mentioned that more than 40 civilians were sheltering in the house and the warehouse when the strike occurred. While responding to the matter, the Israeli military said it had struck “terrorist infrastructure” in central Gaza where rockets had been fired toward Israel in recent weeks.

“Reports were received that as a result of the strike, civilians in an adjacent structure were killed. The incident is under review,” it furthered.

While the Doha talks resulted in the creation of a new ceasefire proposal, the Israeli authorities have been issuing mass evacuation orders in parts of central Gaza.

What happened in Jenin?

Meanwhile, Hamas confirmed that two of its senior operatives were killed in an IDF drone strike in West Bank. The incident took place on Saturday evening and targeted Raafat Dawasi, a commander in the terror group’s local wing in Jenin, and Ahmed Abu Ara who was a senior operative, The Times of Israel reported.

Hours before the confirmation, the Israeli Defence Force said that the pair were involved in planning and carrying out a series of attacks, including the June 27 bomb attack in Jenin. The Israel Defence Force (IDF) spokesperson Avichay Adraee also mentioned that the two Hamas personnel were also responsible for the shooting in the Jordan Valley.
