Thomas Matthew Crooks teased an attack online and had written a threatening message on a chatboard of a popular gaming platform, saying, “July 13 will be my premiere” the day he fired around six rounds from his AR-15 as he attempted to assassinate Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

A report by Fox News said that on Wednesday (July 17), US Senators were informed by Secret Service and FBI officials that days before Crooks attempted to kill former president Trump, he wrote a threatening message on the chatboard of the gaming platform Steam which read, “July 13 will be my premiere, watch as it unfolds."

The investigators stumbled upon Crook’s message on Steam as they continued to review his electronic devices, including his smartphones and laptop.

Steam is one of the most popular platforms where gamers purchase games, form communities based on the games they enjoy playing, and communicate.

Crooks searched for July 13 Trump rally on laptop

The US’ top security official also told the senators that investigators, while reviewing Crooks’ laptop, they found that he had searched for the term “July 13 Trump rally,” the report said.

Apart from this, Crook’s July search history also revealed that he had looked up for the phrase “Trump,” “Biden,” and “When is the DNC convention.”

The senators suspect that Crooks had two phones. His primary phone was recovered from the scene along with a remote transmitter, while his second device was found in his home and only had 27 contacts saved in the phonebook.

As per the report, the FBI told the senators that they are tracking down and interviewing people whose names were found in the contact list of his second phone.

The investigators also told the senators that his phone’s and laptop’s search history revealed no indication of his political views. They further said that efforts were being made to determine the shooter’s motive.
