Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani emphasised the company’s unwavering commitment to driving economic growth in India while speaking at the 47th Annual General Meeting (Post-IPO) of the company on Thursday.

“Reliance has invested cumulatively over Rs 5.28 lakh crore (US$ 66.0 billion) in the last three years. Reliance remained the single largest contributor to the national exchequer, contributing Rs 1,86,440 crore (US$ 22.4 billion) through various taxes and duties in FY 2023-24,” Ambani said.

“In the last three years, Reliance’s contribution to the exchequer crossed Rs 5.5 lakh crore (US$ 68.7 billion), the highest by any Indian corporate. Reliance also expanded its social impact with a 25 per cent increase in its annual CSR spending to Rs 1,592 crore (US$ 191 million). With this, Reliance’s total CSR spend for the last three years crossed Rs 4,000 crore (US$ 502 million), the largest among all Indian corporates,” he said.

Moreover, Reliance Industries continues to be recognised as India’s best employer by multiple external agencies. Ambani highlighted the conglomerate’s commitment to employment creation, noting that Reliance remains one of the largest employers in the country.

“The nature of employment creation is changing globally, primarily due to technological interventions and flexible business models,” Ambani saidd. “Therefore, rather than just the traditional direct employment model, Reliance is embracing newer incentive-based engagement models. This helps the employees earn better and instills the spirit of enterprise in them. That is why the direct employment numbers show a slight dip in the annual figures, although the total employment created by Reliance has gone up.”

Despite this slight dip in direct employment figures, Reliance’s overall workforce has expanded significantly. Last year alone, the company added over 1.7 lakh new jobs, bringing its total headcount to nearly 6.5 lakh, when considering both traditional and newer engagement models. Ambani underscored the significance of this achievement, stating, “Among all of Reliance’s record achievements so far, this one will always hold a special place in my heart because employment creation for India’s talented youth has to be our top national priority.”

Reliance’s focus on innovative employment models reflects the company’s forward-thinking approach in an era where technological advancements are rapidly transforming the job market. By adapting to these changes, Reliance is not only providing jobs but also fostering a culture of entrepreneurship among its workforce.

As India’s top employer, Reliance’s ongoing efforts in job creation and employee welfare continue to set the benchmark for businesses across the nation.
