India has advised its national in Israel to “stay vigilant and adhere to the safety protocols” amid heightened tensions and fears of retaliatory attack from Iran following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday said it was Iran’s “duty” to avenge the death in Tehran of Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh, an assassination that Iran blamed on Israel.

‘Exercise caution’

In an advisory to Indian nationals in Israel, Embassy of India in Tel Aviv said: “Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel within the country and stay close to safety shelters.”

“The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and remains in regular touch with the Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of all our nationals,” the advisory further stated.

A 24x7 helpline number has also been launched by the Indian Embassy in Israel for any emergency situation.
