The stage is set as the Vice Presidential candidates from the Democratic and the Republican parties have agreed to participate in at least one vice-presidential debate. A day after Democrats’ VP pick and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz agreed to take part in the debate, Ohio Senator and GOP’s pick for the position, JD Vance, also agreed to take on Walz.

Both the candidates accepted an invitation from CBS News which will be hosting the debate on October 1. The American news outlet announced the news on Wednesday. As per the report, the debate will be moderated by “CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell and “Face the Nation” moderator and CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan.

CBS News stated that it proposed four dates for a debate between the two vice presidential nominees. These dates were; Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, and Oct. 8. The Harris-Walz campaign was the first one to pick October 1 for the debate. “See you on October 1, JD,” the Minnesota governor wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Vance accepts the challenge

Meanwhile, the Ohio Senator accepted the challenge and insisted that the American people deserve “as many debates as possible”. “The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already,” Vance wrote on X.

“Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well. I look forward to seeing you at both!” he added. Before Vance made it official, he told Fox News that he was open to debating Walz. However, he was not firmly committed to it at that time.

“We’re certainly going to debate Tim Walz. We just heard about this thing three hours ago, so we’re going to talk to them and figure out when we can debate,” Vance said.

“We want to actually look at the debates, look at the moderators, talk about the rules a little bit. I strongly suspect we’re going to be there on October 1, but we’re not going to do one of these fake debates, Laura, where they don’t actually have an audience there, where they don’t actually set the parameters in a right way, where we can have a good exchange of ideas,” he added.

During the interview, Vance insisted that he wanted to debate Walz more than once. “Hopefully we’re going to see him on Oct. 1, but hopefully we’re going to see him either before or after that because I think it’s important for the American people to actually see us discuss our views,” he told Fox News.
