Uttar Pradesh might be getting a new BJP State president after Bhupendra Chaudhary reportedly offered to resign from the post following his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

The development comes after talks of a possible structural rejig within the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state gained momentum after its poor show in the Lok Sabha elections.

The state unit of the party is also looking at a cabinet overhaul.

Who met whom?

To put things into perspective and highlight the ongoing changes, here’s a list of UP BJP leaders who met the top brass over the past couple of days:

  • UP BJP Chief Bhupendra Chaudhary met Prime Minister Narendra Modi

  • UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya met BJP President JP Nadda

  • Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met UP Governor Anandiben Patel

PM Modi discusses issues with Chaudhary

During his meeting with PM Modi, Chaudhary is learned to have briefed him on the party’s organisational matters. Sources said the meeting lasted for about an hour.

After his meeting, the BJP UP Chief took responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the state and offered to resign from the position.

Yogi vs Maurya

To make things more uncomfortable within the party, there is also a rift going on between CM Yogi and Dy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Rumours of sparring between the two leaders became so steadfast that the central BJP had to ask them to forget their differences and focus on upcoming bypolls, according to a report by News18. 

Reportedly, Maurya has skipped multiple cabinet meetings chaired by Yogi in the past one month, giving rise to indifference between the two.

The meeting between Maurya and Nadda on Tuesday was a result of this infighting.
