Before the modern Olympics that began in Athens, Greece in 1896, there was the Ancient Olympics. The first Ancient Olympics dates back to 3,000 years ago, with the maiden edition being held in Greece in 776 BC. The Games were held every four years and were held in order to honour the Greek god Zeus.
Back then, the Ancient Olympics was nothing like what it is today (modern Olympics). Athletes used to participate in ancient Olympics without any clothing, and unlike the modern Olympics where the top three are rewarded with gold, silver and bronze respectively, there was only one winner at the ancient Olympics.
