Amid the suicide of a robot in South Korea, revisiting Kriti Sanon's portrayal of a robot in 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya'

On June 26, South Korea’s Gumi City Council revealed that their top administrative officer robot was discovered ‘dead,’ having seemingly thrown itself down a six-and-a-half-foot flight of stairs.

The incident has left the local community mourning what is being referred to as the country’s first robot “suicide”, The Daily Mail reports.

After the incident, the Gumi City Council said they would launch an investigation to find the cause of the supposedly “depressed” robot’s death.

“Pieces have been collected and will be analysed by the company,” the official was quoted as saying in the AFP report.

Two Hindi films come to mind- Rajinikanth’s Robot and Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Shankar’s audacious and overwhelming ode to machines was pulpy fun, with an andro-humanoid creating havoc after being corrupted by a rival scientist. But in Sanon’s case, she was a machine mostly hired for chores usually reserved for humans. The portrayal elicits laughter since we are oblivious to the flipside. It’s shown towards the end when Sifra, the character Sanon plays, goes bonkers.

The traumatic case is only a lesson of how humans and now even machines can only take as much pressure at a time. But kudos to Hindi films to now showcase andro-humanoid robots and not just moving machines as characters. Both Rajinikanth and Kriti Sanon nailed their parts.

Also, researchers in Japan have found a way to attach live skin to robot faces in a bid to enable them to mimic human expressions.

The skin which will be developed in a lab will be like human skin which would have self-healing properties. They will drill holes in the faces of the robots and then attack the skin with a gel. Watch the video to know more.
