In a shocking development, Bangladeshi producer Selim Khan, who had made a film on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his son, the actor Shanto Khan were beaten to death on Monday by a mob during mayhem in Bangladesh.

As per a report, Selim and Shanto were targeted in Chattogram’s Chandpur soon after the news of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as PM spread.

“Some people tried to stop them (but) they managed to flee by opening fire. When they reached the nearby Bagarabazaar area, an angry mob caught and killed them. Chandpur Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Sheikh Mohsin Alam confirmed the matter,” The Daily Star report said.

Actress Kaushani Mukhopadhyay, who shared screen space with Shanto Khan in the Bangladeshi film Piya Re, was deeply affected by his death. “I can’t believe he is no more. Shanto was very respectful and had ambitions to make a significant impact in the industry,” she recalled.

“My prayers are for the people of Bangladesh in this difficult time… It is heartbreaking to witness such tragic scenes. I hope this difficult time will pass soon,” said Tollywood actor Jeet on X (previously known as Twitter).

Another Bengali superstar Dev who was close to Selim Khan and his son Shanto wrote on Facebook on Monday, “I had been to Bangladesh several times and floored by the hospitality of the people there.”
