'It belongs to everyone who happens to be...'

Not just Adil Hussain, even actor Faisal Malik, who was seen in the show Panchayat, spoke about the Chitrashaala short film festival organised by Village Square, the importance of film festivals, and much more in an exclusive interview with Firstpost.

Edited excerpts from the interview:

What’s the importance and the impact of film festivals on cinema?

There should be more film festivals because they celebrate the very best of human stories. They should be supported and encouraged so that more people can go and watch something different. Streaming and convenience of the internet has made people lazy and they should make the effort to watch films in theatres. Only when people eagerly go to festivals and theatres, will there be a resurgence of interest in good cinema.

What does the success of Panchayat mean to you?

The success of the Panchayat is like a blessing to me from all my friends and my family. It belongs to everyone who happens to be with me and also to those who are not.

Do you feel we need to highlight environmental and social issues more often in our films and web series?

Yes, there should be more emphasis on such stories so that people are made aware of important issues. Only then something will shift in mass consciousness. Otherwise, these issues will be forgotten, and the consequences will be severe. This is incredibly important, I feel.
