 'People in Bollywood now...'

ZEE5, India’s largest home-grown video streaming platform, has shattered the boundaries of time and space with the mind-bending trailer of ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah.’ Set to premiere on August 9, this Karan Johar and Guneet Monga Kapoor co-production questions the viewers on the possibility of altering present and future by changing the past.

Helmed by the visionary director Umesh Bist, ‘ Gyaarah Gyaarah’ boasts a powerhouse cast including Kritika Kamra, Dhairya Karwa, and Raghav Juyal in the lead and Gautami Kapoor, Harsh Chhaya, Purnendu Bhattacharya, Mukti Mohan, Gaurav Sharma, among others.

And in an exclusive interview with Firstpost, Raghav spoke about life post the success of Kill, the era of the 90s, and how people within the industry have begun to recognize him.

Edited excerpts from the interview

What fascinated you about the script of the series?

What I liked about Gyaarah Gyaarah is that after Kill, I got to play a character I could work on. We are not writing enough characters we can work on for 3 to 4 months. What also attracted me with the production companies of the series, Guneet Monga, who brought the Oscar for us, and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. I also have a long lasting relationship with Zee since Dance India Dance that happened around 2011.

Since the show is also based in the 90s, what are your memories of that era?

We have seen great television content, especially a show called Hip Hip Hurray. There’s an episode in that show where all the students are discussing the politics of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Even filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap and Shyam Benegal made shows at that time, abhi saanp se nevla, nevla se saanp Banta hai to kuch samajh hi nahin aa raha hai.

How much has life changed post 5th July since Kill released?

The perception of the people within the industry has changed, and my audiences have changed too. Everything has flipped post the release of Kill. It was important for me because even if four people don’t recognize you outside, producers and directors in the industry do recognize you, they know you.
