When Priyanka Chopra was called 'homebreaker' & forced to leave Bollywood

The grapevine has been suggesting for eons now that Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra came close while shooting for Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don 2’. That’s not all, Khan was one of the judges for the Miss India World pageant in 2000 where Priyanka Chopra was one of the contestants.

During a Q and A session with the judges, this is what SRK asked Chopra- “Hypothetically, if you were to marry one of the following, who would it be? An Indian sportsman, like Mohammad Azharuddin — who would take you all around the world, make your country proud and make you swell with pride.” This was the first time they met.

A video of the actor singing ‘Marry Me’ to the Quantico star from an event has gone viral on social media:

The ‘friendship’ between Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra made headlines for a long time. While there had been media reports of Chopra being cornered by star wives, being called a home-breaker, and being shunned by Bollywood A-listers like Karan Johar, SRK remained silent.

SRK breaks his silence

In an interview to CNN IBN back in 2012_,_ Shah Rukh finally broke his silence and spoke of his relationship with Chopra and his reaction to the reports about her. The actor said he was ‘sorry’ because Priyanka had not been given the respect that she deserves.

“To me what is most disturbing is that a lady who has worked with me has been questioned and somewhere down the line has not been shown the respect that I show her, or to all women. I think it is disrespectful and I am extremely sorry about that, sorry means not because of the things that I have done but because she is a friend,” Khan said.

Priyanka Chopra on moving to Hollywood

In an interaction with Dax Shepherd on his podcast Armchair Expert, Chopra revealed, “I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break.”

She added, “This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn’t want to get but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require groveling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn’t feel like I wanted to do it.”

Priyanka Chopra  made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with Anil Sharma’s The Hero- Love Story Of A Spy. She later went on to be seen in films like Andaaz, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Aitraaz, Waqt, Don, Krrish, Fashion, Dostana, Kaminey, Don 2, Agneepath, Bajirao Mastani, and The Sky Is Pink.
