Paavo Nurmi Games 2024 preview, Men’s Javelin Throw preview: All eyes will be on India’s top javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra as he continues his buildup towards the 2024 Paris Olympics that will begin on 26 July. Neeraj will be taking part at the 2024 Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland’s Turku. Neeraj was last seen in action during the Federation Cup in May in Bhubaneshwar, where he won a gold medal.

The 26 year-old, however, did not compete in the Ostrava Golden Spike event in Czech Republic after he pulled out of that tournament as a precautionary measure, with Neeraj revealing that he had felt something in his adductor.

Neeraj previously participated in the Paavo Nurmi Games in 2022, when he won a silver medal with a throw of 89.30m. However, the Haryana-born had pulled out of the 2023 edition due to an injury.

While breaching the 90m mark will remain in Neeraj’s mind, it’s his fitness that will be in focus, especially after he missed the Ostrava Golden Spike recently. Following the Paavo Nurmi Games, Neeraj will get another opportunity to gear up for the Paris Olympics when he takes part in the Paris Diamond League that starts from 7 July.

Neeraj’s major competitors at the Paavo Nurmi Games will be Max Dehning of Germany, Andersen Peters of Grenada and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago. It’s also important to note that Max has already surpassed the 90m barrier. At the Winter Throwing Championships in Halle, Max, 19, had become the youngest to record a throw over 90m when he finished with a score of 90.20.
