The wait for the 2024 Paris Olympics is almost over. The Olympics gets underway in the French capital on 26 July and will be held till 11 August, with 10,500 athletes expected to take part in it.

The Paris Olympics 2024 will feature 32 sports, including 28 ‘core’ sports that were also part of the Summer Games at Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021. Four new sports have been added to the programme of the 2024 Olympics — sport climbing, breakdancing, surfing, and skateboarding.

As many as 329 gold medals will be on offer across 32 sports in Paris. In Tokyo, the United States of America finished on top of the medals tally with 39 gold medals, followed by China in second place with 38 gold. Hosts Japan were in third place with 27 gold. India finished in 48th place with seven medals (1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze).
