Haryana has once again emerged as the most successful state in winning medals at Olympics. Reuters

The Paris Olympics 2024 has come to an end with India finishing 71st in the medal tally with six medals including five bronze and one silver. India fell short by one medal to match its best-ever tally of seven - a record established at Tokyo 2020. With six medals India have matched their second-best tally of six medals from London 2012 but it’s important to note that they won two silver medals in 2012 and four bronze.

A breakdown of medals India won at Paris 2024 Olympics, by sport:

Athletics: 1 (Silver)
Hockey: 1 (Bronze)
Shooting: 3 (All bronze)
Wrestling: 1 (Bronze)

Aman Sehrawat (Wrestling): Bronze in men’s freestyle 57kg

Only four sports fetched medals for India while they took part in 16.

Six athletes from India missed out on a medal narrowly with the country registering a record six fourth-place finishes at the Paris Olympics 2034.

India had sent 117 athletes to Paris Olympics with a male-female ratio of 70-47.

Overall, Haryana won 4 out of six medals for India at the Paris Olympics 2024. In other words, Haryana, which comprises 2.09% of India’s population according to the 2011 census, contributed 66.66% of the medals India won at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

If Phogat is awarded a silver then Haryan’s tally is only set to increase.
