India's shooters that include Elavenil Valarivan and badminton stars including Lakshya Sen will be in action on Day 1 of the Paris Olympics on Saturday. PTI
India’s shooters, shuttlers and the men’s hockey team will be in action on Day 1 of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday. As far as shooting events are concerned, the 10m Air Rifle Mixed team qualification and medal events will take place on the same day (Saturday), unlike the Tokyo Olympics when both the events were held on separate days.
In the 10m Air Rifle mixed team event, India will pin their hopes on the Ramita Jindal-Arjun Babuta pair and the Elavenil Valarivan-Sandeep Singh pair in Paris. The teams that finish in the top four of the qualification stage then qualify for the medal matches that will be held later on the same day.

The pairs who finish first and second will face off in the gold medal match, whereas the pairs who finish third and fourth will lock horns in the bronze medal match. The 10m air pistol qualification events are also scheduled for Saturday and all eyes will be on Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema in these events.
The India men’s hockey team will lock horns against New Zealand in their first group stage match later on Saturday. The badminton group stage round begins on Saturday, with Lakshya Sen, Ashwini Ponnappa-Tanisha Castro pair and the Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty pairs in action.
