Vinesh Phogat arrives in New Delhi LIVE updates

Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of everything that is happening in and around Indian sports, with our major focus at the moment being wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s arrival in New Delhi from Paris. Vinesh arrived at the IGI airport in New Delhi on Saturday (17 August) following a heartbreaking campaign at Paris Olympics, where she was disqualified from the final after being overweight by 100 grams. Watch out for this space for more updates.

Vinesh Phogat arrives in New Delhi Highlights: Senior Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat arrived in New Delhi on Saturday (17 August) following a Paris Olympics campaign recently that ended in heartbreak. Vinesh, who was disqualified from the Paris Olympics after being overweight by 100 grams, broke down into tears upon arriving at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Saturday.

The 29 year-old had become the first Indian woman wrestler to qualify for the final of an Olympics. Vinesh had beaten Japan’s Yui Susaki, Ukraine’s Oksana Livach and Yusneylys Guzman of Cuba to reach the final of the women’s 50 kg category.

However, on the day of the final, it was declared that Vinesh was overweight by 100 grams following the second weigh-in. She then registered an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 7 August for a joint-silver medal. However, on 14 August, the CAS dismissed her appeal, with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha expressing “shock and disappointment.”
