Both Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh were in seventh heaven after winning 10m air pistol mixed team bronze in the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.

Bhaker and Sarabjot defeated South Korea’s Lee Wonoho and Oh Yeh Jin 16-10 in the bronze medal playoff that took place on Tuesday afternoon (Indian time), helping India win their second medal of the ongoing Games, both won in shooting.

Bhaker thus became the first Indian athlete post-Independence to win two medals in the same edition, having previously won the 10m air pistol bronze in the women’s individual event that made her the first Indian woman to win an Olympic shooting medal.

Reacting to her joint effort with Sarabjot that landed India their sixth medal in shooting in the Olympics, the 22-year-old shooter from Haryana’s Jhajjar said that their aim was to give their best shot regardless of the final result.

“I feel really proud and have a lot of gratitude that I was able to achieve this. Thank you so much for all your blessings.

“We can’t control everything; we can just try to do our best. Before coming here, my partner and I said, ‘Let’s try our best, and however it goes, we will accept it and keep fighting till the last shot,’” Bhaker told JioCinema.

Bhaker also reflected on her disappointing campaign in the Tokyo 2020 Games, in which she had an infamous falling out with her coach Jaspal Rana before the event. She had also suffered a gun malfunction that prevented her from reaching the final round of the individual 10m air pistol event.

“After Tokyo, I was very disappointed and how the team events turned out to be for me were not very good. It took me a long time to overcome that, however, I came back stronger,” Bhaker added.

It was also a triumphant comeback for Sarabjot after he was left heartbroken for failing to qualify for the men’s individual finals, finishing at the ninth spot.

“I am feeling very good. The game was very tough, and there was a lot of pressure, but the support from the Indian crowd was immense. I can’t express how good I am feeling,” Sarabjot told JioCinema after the event.
