Wrapping things up

That was some effort from Chopra in Lausanne, surpassing his season best registered at the Paris Olympics with a throw of 89.49m — once again coming within touching distance of the magical 90-metre mark!

The effort also virtually ensures Chopra will be in the entry list for the Diamond League Final in Brussels in September, where he will be hoping to win gold for the second time after collecting silver in Zurich last year.

On that note, we bring our coverage of the event to an end. Good night!

Grenada’s Anderson Peters wins the Lausanne event with a Meet Record of 90.61m in his sixth and final attempt! He started celebrating right after even though it was the first of three throws in the sixth round of attempts.

Germany’s Julian Weber finishes third with a best effort of 87.08m, throwing a relatively sedate 82.33m in his final attempt. His progression appears to be the complete opposite of Chopra’s, peaking early in the event.

Quick recap of the Paris Olympics

ICYMI  –– India actually felt a tinge of disappointment at Neeraj Chopra missing out on gold at the Paris Olympics. That’s how much of a superstar the Haryanvi is.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem dethroned Chopra from the Olympic throne with an Olympic record throw of 92.97m, with Chopra collecting silver with a season-best effort of 89.45 — nearly two metres more than his gold-winning effort in Tokyo.

Grenada’s Anderson Peters took home bronze with a best effort of 88.54m.

Men's javelin to get underway soon in Lausanne!

Can Neeraj Chopra surpass his season-best?

Chopra had produced his season-best effort in the Paris Olympics, touching a distance of 89.45m in his only legal attempt to win silver at the Paris Olympics. It was nearly two metres more than the 87.58m that he had thrown in Tokyo 2020 to win a historic gold, but thanks to Arshad Nadeem’s monster throw, wasn’t good enough for a second consecutive top-of-the-podium finish.

Can he go past his best effort in Paris earlier this month and establish a new season-best in Lausanne? And perhaps, in the process, finally breach 90 metres?

Neeraj Chopra returns to action for the first time since the Paris Olympics!

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the men’s javelin event at the Lausanne Diamond League in Lausanne, Switzerland, in which India’s Neeraj Chopra makes his first competitive appearance since landing silver at the Paris Olympics with a season-best effort of 89.45 metres.

Preview: Neeraj Chopra returns to action for the first time since winning silver in the Paris Olympics earlier this month as he takes part in the men’s javelin event at the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday.

Chopra is set to compete in the Swiss event despite having not fully recovered from a groin injury, for which the star athlete said he might have to undergo surgery soon.

The 26-year-old from Haryana had made history in Paris after winning silver with a best effort of 89.45m, becoming the first Indian track and field athlete and only the third after wrestler Sushil Kumar and shuttler PV Sindhu to win Olympic medals in back-to-back Olympic Games.

Chopra had made history in the Tokyo Olympics three years ago by becoming the first Indian to collect a track and field medal at the Paris Olympics by winning gold.

Had it not been for Nadeem breaking the Olympic record with his best effort of 92.97m, Chopra might have ended up becoming the first Indian to win back-to-back gold medals at the Olympics, individually that is.

Despite the physical discomfort the he is dealing with at the moment, Chopra will be hopeful of going past his season-best throw and perhaps breach the elusive 90-metre mark in the process.
