Varun Sharma is back with some stale humours

Director: Simarpreet Singh

Cast: Varun Sharma, Jassie Gill, Patralekhaa, Manjot Singh, Sunny Singh and Ishita Raj

Nothing out of the ordinary though, the jokes are sometimes dumb, but the film manages to make you laugh, but how genuine are those laughters, for that you need to watch Netflix’s Wild Wild Punjab to actually find out.  The story is about four young friends with their own problems and idiosyncrasies, who get together to help one of the four who has just been ditched by his girlfriend.

Rajesh Khanna, a.k.a. Khanne (Varun Sharma) friends try to teach him that if you have been heartbroken it’s time not to sink yourself in sorrow, but to gather the strength to get over your ex. His friends make him understand, if you have ever been heartbroken, you need to just say “I am over you” to your ex and just move on. They all go out on a mission to help Khanne (Varun Sharma) utter the four magical words to his ex in front of her family members. It’s very evident from the film that to get that courage all you need is a set of good friends and a car called Paro.

Driving him on and up for some fun, his dependable gang of friends — Maan Arora a.k.a Arore (Sunny Singh), Gaurav Jain a.k.a Jainu (Jassie Gill), and Mr. Honey Singh a.k.a Honey Paaji (Manjot Singh) — come up with a plan. They embark on the ultimate break-up road trip where more things go wild than right. Radha (Patralekhaa) and Meera (Ishita Raj) join them on this adventure across the vibrant yet chaotic world of Punjab to help Khanne find closure. This wild wild journey turns out to be anything but ordinary. But the question is, will they succeed?

A hilarious ride with some forced laughter had its share of good and bad. Wonder do people of Punjab always drink and drive. In this journey they do get involved in their ill-conceived plans. As I kept watching the film, which is an absolute no-brainer, the thought came to my mind that why does the entertainment industry make such movies with no intensity or depth? But I am sure there are takers for such kinds of films too like Netflix’s Wild Wild Punjab . It’s a movie not for the thinking mind because comedy can be witty too. Wild Wild Punjab is a film for those who enjoy slapstick comedy.

Nevertheless, with loads of drama, the film has a good dose of nostalgia too, especially the gate-crashing scenes at a wedding where they actually land up in trouble with their Dutch courage with a couple of drinks down. But there are times when you are actually waiting for the film to pick. The plots of Wild Wild Punjab are plenty, but the film seriously lacks the dialogue which can evoke an authentic laughter. Rather I would say that the weakest point of the movie is the writing which is very slack. The movie will also make you think whether the state of Punjab is all about freely available drugs and alcohol. In fact that bit of the film whenever you are depicting Punjab is rather exhausting.
