 Coach Jaspal Rana hails Manu Bhaker after bronze medal win

Manu Bhaker’s coach Jaspal Rana was “really proud” of her trainee after the women’s 10m air pistol shooter created history by winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday. Manu Bhaker is the first female shooter from India to win an Olympic medal, this was also India’s first medal at the 2024 Games.

“I have no reason not to see this coming. Definitely, I was confident and by God’s grace we got this medal and I am more happy because Manu has won the first medal for the country. History has been made and I am really proud of her, and I am really happy,” stated Rana in an interview with PTI after Bhaker’s win.

She won the bronze with a score of 221.7 in the 10m air pistol final.

South Korea’s Ye Jin clinched the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2 points. Her compatriot, Kim Yeji, settled for silver with 241.3 points.

It was a redemption arc for Manu after her pistol malfunctioned at the Tokyo Olympics.

On Saturday, she made history by becoming the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach a shooting final in an individual event of the Olympics since Suma Shirur in 2004.

On the opening day, Bhaker finished third in the qualification round of Women’s 10 Metre Air Pistol to qualify for the final at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Saturday. While Rhythm Sangwan failed to qualify after finishing in 15th place.
