Arjun Babuta missed out on a medal by a whisker on Monday as he finished fourth in the men’s 10m air rifle final at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 25-year-old from Fazilka finished just outside of the medal-winning spots with a total score of 208.4, which was only 1.4 points less than the score of the bronze medal winner and Croatia’s Miran Maricic at the time of his elimination.

On his last shot, Babuta hit a 9.5 in response to Maricic’s 10.7 and was eliminated in the fourth spot.

Maricic won the bronze with a score of 230 at the Chateauroux shooting range, while China’s Sheng Lihao won gold with an Olympic record score of 252.2 and Sweden’s Victor Lindgren won silver with 251.4.

The 25-year-old Babuta started the final with a 10.7 and followed that with a 10.2.

A third shot of 10.5 saw him take the fourth spot while a 10.4 in his fourth attempt lifted him to the third spot. He finished the first series with a solid 10.6.

He started the second series with a 10.7, followed that with a 10.5 and shot a near-perfect 10.8 in the second shot of the first elimination series.

That effort propelled him into the second place while reducing the deficit between him and world record holder Chinese Sheng Lihao to 0.1 point.

However, he could not sustain the form and missed out on the medal.

Earlier, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Sing progressed to the bronze medal match in the 10m air pistol mixed team final after finishing third in the qualification.

Ramita Jindal finished seventh in the women’s 10m air rifle final.
