Paris Olympics 2024: News, schedule, results, medals

Nikhat is set to face off against Germany’s Maxi Carina Kloetzer in the Round of 32 of the women’s 50kg boxing event. If she wins, the two-time world champion may encounter Wu Yu from China in the Round of 16. Wu, who is the top seed in the women’s 50kg category and a reigning world champion in the 52kg division, has previously defeated Zareen.

Should Nikhat overcome Wu, she could face either Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat or Uzbekistan’s Sabina Bobokulova in the quarter-finals. It’s worth noting that Nikhat lost to Bobokulova in the final of the Strandja Memorial earlier this year, while Raksat bested her in the semi-finals during last year’s Asian Games, where Raksat won a silver medal.

Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain will begin her campaign in the women’s 75kg division against Sunniva Hofstad of Norway and may potentially clash with China’s Li Qian in the quarter-finals. Qian, a two-time Olympic medallist, previously defeated Borgohain in the final of the women’s 75kg event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

In the women’s 57kg category, Jaismine Lamboria will take on Nesthy Petecio of the Philippines, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, in her opening round. If Jaismine progresses, she will then face the third seed Amina Zidani of France, the reigning European champion.

Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar will compete against Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh in the Round of 32.

On the men’s side, Amit Panghal and Nishant Dev will begin their campaigns in the Round of 16 of the men’s 51kg and 71kg categories respectively, having both received byes for the opening round.

Panghal, a participant in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will face Zambia’s Patrick Chinyemba in his first match. Chinyemba is a seasoned competitor, having won a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Nishant Dev is set to start against Ecuador’s Jose Rodriguez Tenorio in his first bout.

The boxing events at Paris 2024 begin with preliminary rounds on July 27.
