The 28-year-old shooter from Maharashtra added that he was not looking at the score during the final round, and that he focused on sticking to what he had been practicing for years. He finished with a final score of 451.4, beating Czech Republic’s Jiri Privratsky to the podium.

“I feel great. I was a little nervous and my heart is still racing. Ultimately, it’s a sport and I’m proud to have brought home a Bronze for India,” Kusale said after becoming the seventh Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal.

“Every time I had to change shots, I focused on my breathing. I have a few key words; I was repeating those and shooting.

“I focused solely on my breathing. I wasn’t thinking about the score or anything else, just on my breathing and sticking to what I’ve been practicing for many years,” he added.

“I’m not sure if I’ll feel different when the medal is in my hands. I definitely feel something inside, but I’m just used to staying grounded,” added Kusale, who is part of the Sports Ministry’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) programme.
