Diksha’s family members were also present in the car that met with an accident on the intervening night of 30 and 31 July near a traffic signal in the French capital while on their way back from a function at the India House in Paris.

The Dagar family — Diksha, her father and caddie Col Naren Dagar, her mother and brother — were in the car, which was hit by another vehicle on Tuesday night while they were returning from a function at India House.

According to Col Dagar, Diksha is fine and will play the event as per schedule from 7 August and is also going for practice.

However, Diksha’s mother has been hospitalised with a suspected injury in the spinal area. She will be in hospital for the next few days for treatment. The extent of it will be known only after further tests and diagnosis.

The Indian Golf Union later confirmed they were in touch with the Dagar family after the incident.

“We spoke to Diksha’s father Col. Dagar after the accident and would like to confirm that the family is safe. Diksha’s mother has suffered a stress in her spine due to the impact and is under medical supervision and her brother is also safe and sound. On behalf of the Indian Golf Union I would like to reiterate that we are in continuous touch with the family and will continue to provide whatever support possible in this situation.

“I am happy that a talent like Diksha will be representing the country for the second time in the Olympics as per schedule. On behalf of IGU and the golfing fraternity and fans, I wish her good luck for a memorable performance,” said Brijinder Singh, President of the Indian Golf Union.

Their car was just crossing when the light turned and there was an ambulance on the side. A second car which was on the other side of the ambulance was not visible to Diksha’s driver and it hit them from the side, a source said.

This is Diksha’s second Olympic Games and the women’s competition will start on 7 August and run through to 10 August. She had also featured in the Tokyo Olympics that took place in 2021, becoming the first ever golfer to compete in the Olympics as well as in the Deaflympics.

On Thursday the men’s competition, with Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar playing for India, got underway.
