The Indian men’s archery team was knocked out of the Paris Olympics 2024 on Monday after losing to Turkey in the quarter-finals. The Indian trio of Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Jadhav, and Bommadevara Dhiraj lost 6-2 to Turkey.

With Tarundeep featuring in his fourth Olympics and Dhiraj finishing fourth in the ranking round, India were expected to do a lot better but the archers failed to live up to the expectations.

Pravin Jadhav was India’s best archer in the quarter-finals with four 10s, three 9s, and an 8. Dhiraj struggled with his rhythm, shooting 7s in the first and the last set.

After Turkey won the first two sets 57-53 and 55-52 to take a 4-0 lead, India did stage a comeback with a 55-54 narrow win in the third set. However, Turkish archers Mete Gazoz, Abdullah Yildirmis, and Berkim Tumer consistently hit 9s and 10s to complete the task in the fourth set with a 58-54 win.

The Indian men’s team had qualified directly for the quarter-finals after finishing third in the ranking round.

The Indian women’s archery team of Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari had lost to the Netherlands 6-0 in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

All six Indian archers will be back for individual events on Tuesday, while Ankita and Dhiraj will also take part in the mixed team event on Friday.
