The eco-friendly Olympic Village for the 2024 Paris Summer Games has not gone down well with all the athletes. Some athletes have been forced to look for hotel accommodation while some decided to bring in their own appliances to adjust to the heat wave currently impacting France and other European countries.

The Paris Olympics 2024 organisers have put a great focus on producing an eco-friendly Summer Games which can help them reduce their carbon footprint. Some of the major steps taken to achieve this aim are offering more vegetarian food in Olympic Village restaurants and not using air conditioning in the rooms provided to athletes.

The Olympic Village has seen organisers install a system that uses cold water sourced from 70 meters underground and circulates it through the floors to cool down the temperatures of the room.

But that is proving to be ineffective with temperatures rising in Paris.

Some countries like the USA have sent portable ACs with their athletes to the Olympic Village and now the Indian Embassy in France has delivered 40 ACs to the Games Village for Indian athletes so that they can enjoy a comfortable stay and better rest which is much-needed for a good performance.

Paris Olympics 2024: Why some athletes are leaving Games Village for hotels

The decision to buy portable ACs was taken after a coordination meeting was held between the Sports Ministry, SAI, IOA, and the Indian Embassy in France on Friday. The cost of all the ACs has been borne by the Sports Ministry.

The ACs are plug-and-play units and athletes have already started using the ACs.
