The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has rubbished the reports that wrestler Antim Panghal will be banned by the governing body. It was reported by news agency PTI that Panghal was banned for three years by IOA for indiscipline during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Immediately after the news broke out, IOA posted a clarification on X (formerly Twitter) stating that it had not taken any such step.

“IOA refutes reports that a ban has been imposed on wrestler Antim. It requests media persons to please check with the IOA leadership before posting such reports.” IOA wrote on X.

Antim Panghal, who was eliminated from the Paris Olympics after a 0-10 loss to Turkey’s Zeynep Yetgil in the women’s 53 kg pre-quarterfinals, and her support staff are being flown back to India by IOA after her sister was caught using the wrestler’s accreditation card at the Games Village.

“The Indian Olympic Association has decided to fly wrestler Antim and her support staff back after a disciplinary breach was brought to IOA’s notice by the French authorities,” an IOA statement said.

As per a report in PTI, Antim’s sister was taken to a police station and the athlete also had to pay a visit there to record her statement.

Antim’s coach Bhagat Singh and sparring partner Vikas have also been accused of fighting with a taxi driver in Paris in an inebriated state.
