Manu Bhaker on Friday qualified for the final of the women’s 25 pistol event at the Paris Olympics 2024 by finishing second in the qualification with a score of 590-24x. Bhaker will aim for her third medal at the ongoing Paris Olympics in the women’s 25m pistol final at 1 PM IST on Saturday (3 August).

India’s Esha Singh missed out on the final by finishing 18th with a score of 581-17x.

Only the top eight shooters from the qualification progress to the final and the cut-off score in the qualification on Friday was 585.

Manu Bhaker’s two medals, both bronze, at the Paris Olympics 2024 so far have come in 10m air pistol individual and 10m air pistol mixed team events. The 22-year-old shooter from Haryana will now look to change the colour of her medal on Saturday.

The women’s 25 pistol event which is divided into two stages saw Manu Bhaker score 294 in the precision stage and 296 in the rapid round. In the three series of precision rounds which involved 10 shots each, Manu Bhaker scored 87, 98, and 99, and added 100, 98, and 98 in three series of rapid stages which also included 10 shots per series.

If Manu Bhaker wins a medal on Saturday, she will become the first Indian individual athlete to win three Olympic medals. She already holds the record for being the only Indian after independence to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games. She is also the first female shooter to win an Olympic medal.

Her bronze medal win in the air pistol mixed team was the first for India in the event.

Esha scored 291 (95, 96, 100) in the precision stage and 290 (97, 96, 97) in the rapid round.

Hungary’s Veronika Major finished at the top of the qualification with a score of 592-28x which was just two points more than Bhaker and is also the new European qualification record in women’s 25m pistol event.

Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamiyan finished third with a score of 588-18X.

Vietnam’s Thu Vinh Trinh (587-25x) came fourth, China’s Nan Zhao (586-19x) was fifth and South Korea’s Jiin Yang (586-19x) finished sixth.

France’s Camille Jedrzejewski (585-25x) finished seventh and USA’s Morgan Katelyn Abeln (585-19x) ended eighth.
