Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao & co. deliver the blockbuster entertainer of 2024

Cast: Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana

Director: Amar Kaushik

In 2018, we saw the inception of the Supernatural Universe with Stree featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. Apart from garnering critical acclaim, the film turned out to be a box-office blockbuster. The horror comedy was comprised of all the entertaining elements with a dash of subtle social message, which made Stree a must-watch for cine lovers.

After six years, Vicky and her friends are back to save their town Chanderi with Stree 2 and this time it is a headless creature named Sir Kata, who is abducting women. While the trailer has garnered tremendous response, which resulted in a blockbuster start for the film does it fulfil the sky-high expectations of the audience? Let’s find out…

After getting respect and love from Chanderi, Stree’s soul leaves the place. However, after she leaves, we see the arrival of Sir Kata (the headless monster, who carries his detachable head). This monster kidnaps the girls of Chanderi.

While Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana) and Rudra (Pankaj Tripathi) think all these have left Chanderi and gone to big cities to fulfil their professional dreams, they come to know about Sir Kata when he kidnaps Bittu’s girlfriend Chitti (Anya Singh).

News18

Rudra gets a letter from an anonymous person about Sir Kata and through their folklore books and the help of Shraddha Kapoor’s character, they understand Sir Kata was the chief of Chanderi and had killed Stree and her husband and later Stree took revenge and murdered him by chopping off his head and burying his body and head separately.

With the departure of Stree, Sir Kata is back and is against women, who have modern thoughts like studying, doing business, wearing stylish clothes or even scrolling social media. Sir Kata has an orthodox mindset and believes that women should only cook food, wash utensils and sleep with their men.

With Sir Kata’s terror in Chanderi, how will Vicky, Bittu, Janna, and Rudra bring kidnapped women along with the help of a mysterious woman played by Shraddha Kapoor? Well, for that you need to watch Stree 2 on the big screen.

Amar Kaushik, who directed the first part, has again donned the hat for the sequel and I must say he brought all the entertaining elements and the perfect blend of horror and comedy with ease and finesse. He made sure the narrative is engaging, entertaining and above all keeping intact his signature style of filmmaking. However, the climax was a bit stretched and could have been handled more smoothly and crisply.

Writer Niren Bhatt, who previously wrote Bhediya, Bala, Munjya and others has once again penned a story, which is not only entertaining but also reflects the ugly and dark mindset of society in an impeccable way.

Talking about the performances, Rajkummar Rao, who delivered winners this year with Srikanth and Mr & Mrs Mahi, continues his form with Stree 2. The actor once again hit the right chords with his charm, innocence, adorable and funny aura of Vicky. Shraddha Kapoor has comparatively limited screen time compared to the first part but does win the heart with her expressive eyes and acting mettle. Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi win our hearts with superb comic timings and witty one-liners. Not to forget some crazy & surprising cameos and post-credit scene, which will make you super excited.

Talking about the technical aspects, DoP Jishnu Bhattacharjee and editor Hemanti Sarkar have enhanced Stree 2 with their skills while Sachin-Jigar once again have delivered a good soundtrack with Tumhare Hi Rahenge Hum instantly winning you over.

On the whole, Stree 2 is easily one of the most entertaining films of 2024 and a perfect Independence Day watch for cine lovers. Maddock Films and Jio Studios have definitely delivered a blockbuster of the year.
