Sharmin Segal makes rare appearance at Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant's wedding with Sanjay Bhansali after criticism for Netflix's 'Heeramandi'

Somehow, their video didn’t get the attention it needed. We are talking about filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his niece Sharmin Segal, who was seen in his web-series Heeramandi on Netflix. The two made a rare appearance at Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant’s wedding.

The maverick filmmaker of the entertainment industry, Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently amazed the viewers with his latest project Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which premiered on 1st on Netflix.

The web series was a visual spectacle amalgamating top-notch direction and impeccable performances. However, the weakest link in the web series turned out to be Sharmin Segal, who portrayed the character of Alamzeb.

The show’s star cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sanjeeda Shaikh appeared on Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show. While the debate of nepotism again sparked as Sharmin is the niece of SLB, the comedian asked her, “Kya unhone aapka sach me audition liya tha ya aapne unko mamu banaya?”, She said it was a long one-year grueling process and she gave auditions 16 times. “Ek saal ke liye prepare kiya aur 16 baar auditions diye (In one year I gave 16 auditions for the role),” replied Sharmin.

Sharmin garnered severe criticism for her performance in Heeramandi as netizens ’expressionless’ and her acting skills, ‘abysmal.’ In fact, she disabled the comment section of her Instagram profile due to the growing backlash against her.

While talking to Firstpost,  Sharmin shared her experience of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and said, “As an actor for Sanjay Leela Bhansali you have to give your all and be completely blank. In real life I am nothing like Alam as a person. There is something that Priyanka Chopra taught me: she has this switch from one character to another in Mary Kom or Bajirao Mastani where I was the assistant director.”
