What Is Heteropaternal Superfecundation, The Rare Pregnancy Condition Shown in Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri’s ‘Bad Newz’?

‘It’s a case of heteropaternal superfecundation,’ says a doctor in the trailer of Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, Ammy Virk’s comedy. What is it? Two different eggs have been fertilised in the same cycle, so both Vicky and Ammy are fathers of Triptii’s child. Just like the 2019 comedy Good Newwz, which was about sperm exchange, this one that falls in the same vein, seems to be an entertainer.

Dr Rajashri Tayshete Bhasale, consultant gynecologist and obstetrician, told The HealthSite that this is a rare condition, wherein the pregnant woman gives birth to twins from different biological fathers.

In the film, Vicky Kaushal, in particular, feels like a riot with cheesy and classic one liners and quips like where he demands a super-over or challenges Virk for a round of push-ups. The clincher, or the cherry, is a reference of Katrina Kaif. Director Anand Tiwari gets the tone of the narrative right, by keeping it over-the-top, outrageous, and unabashed. Triptii Dimri, fresh off the success of Animal, seems to have surrendered to the material completely. And Ammy Virk allows himself to go bonkers, especially in a comical altercation with Kaushal at the end of the trailer, where Ranbir Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Kaushal’s own Manmarziyaan make a sensational appearance.

Tripti Dimrii on working with Vicky Kaushal

Dimri said, “He’s very understanding and gives you your important space. Vicky, he’s like a full-on Punjabi. Very easy. Very committed to his work. You know, he’s someone who made me feel comfortable. He’s very secure as an actor.”

She added, “Usually when you’re acting, you tend to get a little selfish about your scenes and performance. You have to be aware of what your co-actor is doing or else the scene will fall flat. That worked out with Vicky.”

The film is produced by Amazon Prime in association with Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective. A Leo Media Collective production, the film will hit the screens on July 19.
