Vidya Balan is one of the finest talents we have in the industry. However, between 2007 and 2010, it became less and less about her film choices and more about her fashion choices, on screen and off it. Back in 2008, Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan even gave her a Naariyal award for the clothes she wore in Heyy Babyy (2007).
On the podcast Unfiltered with Samdish, the actress said, “When they told me they’re going to give me the Na-Real award, I said, ‘Why me? My clothes are not just my choice, right?’”
She added, “At that time, I was too new to have an opinion on anything. So they said, ‘No, we’re just doing this fun segment so we’re going to give you this award.’ So I said, ‘Fine, but I’m going to share it with the costume designer and the director, and they said, ‘No, you mustn’t do that.’ And that, I think, is not nice.”
Vidya Balan on Nepotism
“Nepotism or no nepotism, I am here. Kisi ki baap ki industry nahi hai, nahi toh har baap ka beta, har baap ki beti successful hote (The film industry does not belong to anyone’s father, else every star kid would be successful),” said Balan while talking to Indian Express.
She added, “I have been happy doing my own things. There were times when I felt like, ‘Maybe if I had the protection of certain people, people would have been a bit kinder in those phases.’ But in terms of opportunities, I don’t think anybody has been able to deny me my share.”
The actress will soon feature in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 costarring Triptii Dimri and Kartik Aaryan. The horror comedy is directed by Anees Bazmee.
