When Kamal Haasan and Akshay Kumar clashed at the box-office in 1997 with Chachi 420 and Aflatoon respectively, the former beat the latter. 27 years later, with another clash (Indian 2 and Sarfira), both the parties had to bite the dust. The films crashed on Monday as they could collect only Rs 3.15 and 1.40 crore respectively.
The Khiladi of Bollywood , Akshay Kumar is often considered as one of the most bankable stars in the showbiz. The hit and fit actor enjoyed a golden period since 2016 when his movies like Airlift, Housefull 3, Rustom, Jolly LLB 2, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Pad Man, Gold, Kesari, Mission Mangal, Housefull 4, Good Newwz turned out to be box office spinners. Akki even bagged the National Award of Best Actor for his portrayal in Rustom.
In fact, he was the first Bollywood actor to deliver a hit after COVID’s first wave with Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, which released in 2021. The actioner raked in Rs 196 crore at the box office and also featured Katrina Kaif, Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff and Kumud Mishra with cameos from Ajay Devgn as Singham and Ranveer Singh and Simmba.
However, last few years the actor has been going through a rough patch with a string of flops including Bachchhan Paandey, Samraat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, Selfiee, Ram Setu, Mission Raniganj and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan .
While last year his OMG 2 was a hit, the film was headlined by Pankaj Tripathi. Despite being one of the most sought-after and busiest stars, his tough phase at the box office has been concerning to his fans.
