Filmmaker Karan Johar was recently in a conversation with Faye D’Souza where he revealed he has body dysmorphia. Johar said, “I am very awkward getting into a pool. I don’t know how to do it without feeling pathetic. I’ve tried very hard to overcome it. No matter what the success you achieve, no matter who you think you are in your own head, I’m always in oversized clothes.”

The director added, “Even if I lose the weight, and I try very hard, I’m always battling with it, but I’m always feeling I’m fat. So I don’t want you to see any part of my body.”

What is body dysmorphic disorder?

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), or body dysmorphia, is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others. People of any age can have BDD, but it’s most common in teenagers and young adults. It affects both men and women.

The person may try many cosmetic procedures or exercise to excess. People with this disorder may frequently examine their appearance in a mirror, constantly compare their appearance with that of others and avoid social situations or photos.

Karan Johar recently took to his Instagram stories and shared a hilarious lengthy note in Hindi talking about changing the external body.

The filmmaker wrote: “Fillers laga lo fulfilment nahin milti…Make up laga lo umar hai ghat thi (Applying fillers doesn’t bring fulfillment… applying makeup doesn’t make you younger).”

Karan added: “Karlo jitna bhi Botox, lagoge jaise madhumakkhi ne kaat liya… Naak badalne se gand itar nahi banti (No matter how much Botox you do, you’ll end up looking like a fly stung you).”
