Google has just introduced its latest flagship smartphone, the Pixel 9 series, at its Made By Google event. The lineup includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL, all powered by the new Tensor G4 processor and featuring the Titan M2 security chip. As expected, the new Pixel 9 series focuses heavily on AI. In fact, Google has baked in its Gemini AI assistant in a number of native apps.

Another major highlight is the commitment to seven years of Android OS updates, security patches, and Pixel Drops, ensuring that users will have access to the latest features and improvements for an extended period.

The Pixel 9 is equipped with 12GB of RAM, while the Pro models offer a more robust 16GB of RAM. The camera setup also differs between the models, with the Pixel 9 featuring dual rear cameras and the Pro variants boasting a triple rear camera system.

The Pixel 9 is a dual SIM smartphone that runs on the latest Android 14 operating system. Google has promised seven years of updates, including both OS upgrades and security patches, making it a future-proof option for buyers.

The phone features a 6.3-inch Actua OLED display, delivering a resolution of 1,080 x 2,424 pixels with a pixel density of 422ppi. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and offers a peak brightness of up to 2,700 nits, with a refresh rate that can adjust from 60Hz to 120Hz depending on the content being viewed.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9 is powered by the Tensor G4 SoC, paired with the Titan M2 security coprocessor, ensuring both high performance and secure user data. For photography enthusiasts, the Pixel 9 includes a dual rear camera setup. The primary sensor is a 50MP Octa PD wide-angle camera, while the secondary sensor is a 48MP Quad PD ultra-wide-angle camera. The front-facing camera is a 10.5MP dual PD selfie shooter that also includes autofocus.

The Pixel 9’s camera capabilities are enhanced by several AI-driven features such as Magic Eraser, Best Take, Photo Unblur, and Night Sight, which improve the quality of images under various conditions. Video recording is supported in 4K at 24/30/60 frames per second, offering users a range of options for capturing high-quality footage.

In terms of durability and security, the Pixel 9 comes with an IP68 rating, ensuring protection against dust and water. It also includes an in-display fingerprint sensor and supports face unlock for secure access. Connectivity options are comprehensive, featuring Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, GPS, and multiple global navigation satellite systems like BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo, and NavIC.

The phone is powered by a 4,700mAh battery, which supports 45W wired fast charging (sold separately) and wireless charging through Qi-certified chargers. According to Google, the battery can be charged from zero to 55% in about 30 minutes and is expected to last more than 24 hours on a single charge.

However, these models offer enhanced features that set them apart. The Pixel 9 Pro features a slightly larger 6.3-inch Super Actua OLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 2856 pixels.

The display supports a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, offering smoother visuals and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The Pixel 9 Pro XL, on the other hand, has an even larger 6.8-inch display with a resolution of 1,344 x 2,992 pixels. Both Pro models come with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for added durability.

The camera setup on the Pro models is more advanced, featuring a triple rear camera system. This includes a 50MP Octa PD wide camera, a 48MP Quad PD ultra-wide camera, and a 48MP Quad PD telephoto camera with up to 30x Super Res Zoom and 5x optical zoom. The front-facing camera is also upgraded to a 42MP Dual PD sensor, capable of capturing detailed selfies and video chats.

The Pro models also support 8K video recording at 30 frames per second, offering an even higher resolution for video capture. Like the standard Pixel 9, the Pro variants are IP68-rated and offer similar connectivity options. Additionally, the Pro models include an extra temperature sensor and an Ultra-Wideband chip, adding more functionality.

In terms of battery capacity, the Pixel 9 Pro is equipped with a 4,700mAh battery, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a slightly larger 5,060mAh battery. Both models support the same 45W wired fast charging and wireless charging through Qi-certified chargers.

The entire Pixel 9 lineup will be available for purchase in India through Flipkart, Croma, and Reliance Digital stores starting August 22.
